Special Stake Conference with Elder Quentin L. Cook, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

We had a special stake conference with Elder Cook on May 2. It was fantastic! I took pages of notes and thought I'd share a bit with you.

President Lindberg

  • Families are Preeminent
  • Keeping covenants and being instructed by the Lord - 2 most important things for our families (i.e. attending the Temple)
  • The Family is central to the creator's plan for our eternal destiny.
  • What goes on inside our homes is most vital to our progression toward Jesus Christ
  • No other activity should supercede Family Prayer, Family Home Evening, Scripture Study, and Wholesome Family Activities. NOTHING!

Sister Janine Wilson

  • What quality best defines you as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?
  • Matthew 22:37-40 - Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all they heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as theyself. On these two commandments hand all the law and the prophets.
  • Four Suggestions to love as the Savior loved: 1. Be considerate and sensitive to others' feelings; be encouraging. 2. Be complimentary and genuine. 3. Be charitable. Moroni 7:44 - If so, his faith and hope is vain, for none is acceptable before God, save the meek and lowly in heart; and if a man be meek and lowly in heart, and confesses by the power of the Holy Ghost that Jesus is the Christ, he must needs have charity; for if he have not charity he is nothing; wherefore he must needs have charity. 4. Be grateful - show love and gratitude to Heavenly Father by how we live.
  • Love converts, envelopes, and brings people closer together.
  • Qualities we should seek described in Alma 7:23-24 - And now I would that ye should be humble, and be submissive and gentle; easy to be entreated; full of patience and long-suffering; being temperate in all things; being diligent in keeping the commandments of God at all times; asking for whatsoever things ye stand in need, both spiritual and temporal; always returning thanks unto God for whatsoever things ye do receive. And see that ye have faith, hope, and charity, and then ye will always abound in good works.
  • Heavenly Father knows us by name and loves us and wants the best for us.

Elder Jerryl Garns

  • When we learn by the Spirit, our testimonies are strengthened. When we are listening to a speaker, the teacher should be the Holy Ghost, not the individual speaking.
  • D&C 50:22 - Wherefore, he that preacheth and he that receiveth, understand one another, and both are edified and rejoice together.
  • Teaching received by the Spirit can be perfectly tailored for each individual.
  • Prophetic priorities: 1. Strengthen faith in Jesus Christ. 2. Strengthen Families. 3. rescue, care, and love one another. 4. Priesthood power in the home - honor and be worthy to use and bless.

Elder Quentin L. Cook

  • Be Grateful - We are incredibly blessed.
  • We should not give up on others because they have an "armor" and don't want to hear the gospel: love, encourage, teach.
  • Eternal Families are the key to the church's strength.
  • We follow Jesus Christ, our Savior, in all we do.
  • If we are working, we will be upheld and supported. It is enogh if we continue to work.
  • The Atonement included pains for all the unfair things that happen because of the agency of man.
  • We can be with God the Father and Jesus Christ as families, as a family unit, in the eternities.
  • Jesus Christ lives.
