Top Secret Mission

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create the fastest pinewood derby car and prevent any and all tears at this year's Pinewood Derby.

Seriously, we've been making Cub Scout pinewood derby cars with our boys for the past 11 years (with a year or two break between a couple of our boys), and we've never had a first place car. Our goal is to prevent crying. Last place = crying. This year, John took it a bit more seriously and is polishing the axles. We'll see if it makes a difference.

John always tells our boys, "I can't promise how well it will do, but it will look good." And it does, but I don't think AJ wants me to reveal it yet. So here are a few pics to tide you over.

Parking and Change

During our recent trip to Utah, we went to Temple Square in Salt Lake City. There is a parking lot adjacent to Temple Square that only costs $5.00, so we decided to park there. Unfortunately, we used almost all our cash (it didn't take debit cards), and, when we arrived, we learned that it costs $6.00 to park there during this time of year.

So we dug deep and got all the change out of my car and found enough. We had 2 or 3 pennies to spare! Everyone took a turn putting money in the slot, and it took a while. We must have had 30 pennies!

John's Newest Venture

John bought a mac book last year, because he had an interest in iPhone application development. It took a lot of work and problem solving, and it took him a little longer than he thought, but he persevered, and his first iPhone app was approved and added to the iTunes store yesterday. I am so proud of him!

A Trip to Temple Square, Salt Lake City

We took a quick trip to Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah while we were there. We love the "new" (well new to us) area adjacent to Temple Square with the fountains and greenery. Here are a few photos.

One of the Highlights

One of the highlights of our trip was visiting Temple Square in Salt Lake City, UT. I'll share more pictures later, but this is one of my favorites!

My Adorable Nephews

One of the highlights of our trip to Spanish Fork was seeing our nephews, Nathan and Logan. The kids loved holding Logan (who is one of the most content babies I've ever seen).

Nathan loves climbing and had such a good time with my boys!

He also decided that he really liked Cocoa Puffs.

On the Road Again

This past weekend, we took a quick trip to Spanish Fork, Utah to visit my sister, her husband, and her two children for my nephew's baby blessing. With John in the car, there were a few more pictures with me in them.

Right before we arrived at my sister's house, we stopped at the McDonald's. (Well, I made a wrong turn, so we turned into the McDonald's parking lot to throw away some trash in the car.) As John was taking the garbage out of the car, he noticed a huge bug on the ground. It was interesting enough, we decided to take a picture. The first one was a little blurry, so I got out and took another one. I put a quarter in the picture, so you could see how big this bug really was. John thought it was a roach, but I'm not so sure. Maybe it was a beetle. Anyone out there more familiar with bugs? Can you identify it?
