Jacob Was Accepted!

Jacob applied to four different UC (University of California) schools in November. He's been patiently waiting to hear whether or not he was accepted.

A couple of weeks ago, he learned he was ACCEPTED to UC Santa Cruz. He's still waiting on the other three schools, but he should hear soon.

Congratulations, Jacob!

We are so proud of you!!

Let the Wisdom Tooth Saga Begin...

Up until a week ago, I was the only person in our family who had had their wisdom teeth removed. Mine were pretty straight forward. The dentist thought I'd have room (when I was younger), but as I aged I noticed my bottom teeth shifting a bit, so I had them removed. They were straight pulls, so not a big deal.

When I took David to the dentist a few weeks ago, he mentioned that one of David's 12 year molars had not descended, and he thought one of David's wisdom teeth might be holding it up. So I took him to the oral surgeon who removed my wisdom teeth.

Sure enough, his wisdom tooth was, indeed, holding it up so it was not coming in as it should be. We also discovered that David had 6 wisdom teeth, not 4. He had 2 on the top (on each side) and one on each side on the bottom. (See his x-ray?)

We scheduled surgery for the next week. Here he is right before. Isn't he handsome?

The removal went smoothly, with the oral surgeon getting all 6 teeth. David didn't have much swelling (as these things go). He was a real trooper and didn't complain very much at all.

He went back to school yesterday and is doing really well.

You might think that's the end, but it's not. Jacob is having his wisdom teeth removed on April 7, and John is having his removed on April 11. Fun, huh?

What a Great Reader!!

AJ's elementary school uses the "accelerated reader" program to encourage children to read and understand books, as well as to teach children to set goals and to work toward achieving them. AJ had an AR point goal (each book he reads is assigned points, then he answers questions about them to earn points). He exceeded it and earned more than 150% of his goal.

We are so proud of him!!

Super Fat, Stealth Cat

Okay, maybe "stealth cat" is not quite accurate, but our cat, Mia, is a great escape artist. If she hears the sound my camera makes when it's turned on, she runs and hides, or stops doing the funny things she's doing.

AJ managed to catch her laying down, totally relaxed, while Michael was reading on Sunday. I promised I'd post this to the blog, so here it is.

I'm not a crazy cat lady. Honest.

Star Wars Stratego

AJ loves board games. One of his favorites is Star Wars Stratego. He plays it any chance he gets.

Just Playing Around

The rains have finally stopped, so we hooked the tether ball up again and pulled out the old frisbee. Here are a few photos from a couple of weeks ago of John and the boys playing in the backyard (although we probably should have been weeding).

Dust Bunnies

It wasn't too long ago that I dusted the top of my fridge, but I guess it wasn't recent enough, because I climbed on a stool to put away some cereal and saw that one of my children left a message for me.

Maybe I Take Too Many Pictures... a.k.a. Michael's Honor Band Concert

Michael is a wonderfully talented musician! He started playing the alto saxophone last year and took up the tenor sax this year. A couple of months ago, he auditioned for and was invited to join the District Junior High Honor Band.

The band performed last Saturday, March 5. They did such a great job!

We tried taking a few photos of the band on stage, but you can't see Michael in them because of where he was seated (in relation to our seats). We snapped a few after the concert, but I think he's getting tired of my photo taking obsession.

Still, I'm sharing them, because they're the best I have.

My tulips are blooming!
